Lomography is a great way for all of us creative people to express ourselves and document our crazy lives! On the weekend, I visited the NYC Lomography store with my friend Chester (aka Chet). Chet and I already own one toy camera each. He has a Fisheye, and I have an Actionstopper I haven’t used since high school. Chet was in the market to buy a new lomo, and fell in love with the Holga, Jack [White] edition. The toy camera was a bit pricey for me, but it came in a neat little comprehensive bundle: filters (including the fun White Stripes peppermint filter!!), a glass fisheye lens, a collectible book, a lens adapter, batteries, and color film! Not bad! His camera has a built-in flash, with the choice of a red or white flash.
I just got the Holga 120N in the mail yesterday, an inexpensive model at only $27 dollars on Amazon.com! They also sell it on B&H, where the film is cheap! I love the bright colors of the Holga, and the fact that its medium format film prints out in a nice 4X4 square. This model has a plastic lens and a hot shoe for an external flash. Chet also said he’d give me his fisheye! I can’t wait to take pics with my first roll!
Click here to get the Action Sampler or the Holga Starter Kit on Amazon.
Also at the Lomography store, we met my newest favorite photographer, Emily Searle. She has been working at the store for a few months. This was my second time in the store, and both times she was very, very helpful! I LOVE this store! I love lomo!!
Here are a few mobile lomo-wannabe photos of our trip to the NYC Lomography Gallery Store:
The Lomo store also hosts events & workshops, with more of a party feel with free drinks! But enough about alcohol. ;-)
On Monday, me and my lomorific friends went to the PTA Night at the store, which was a school-themed event, where we talked about the 10 rules of photography, and learned some cool new and old techniques for getting the most out of your toy camera! Here’s some photos of the event from alexandrak!
Here are my own mobile photos turned lomo thanks to the Camera Bag iPhone app!:
Hi! I have the Lomography fisheye #2 and it’s super cool. I have some images on my flickr page – http://www.flickr.com/photos/sueyboo/sets/72157600201857096/
It’s a lot of fun, especially using film which is now like only artsy people use film! hahah. I always wanted the holga but not sure which one is best for a beginner. i just started getting back into photography again. :)
The Fisheye 2 is a beauty! Do you know if it has a plastic or glass lens? I love your shots! Keep it up; you always loved photography!
People have suggested the Holga or the Diana for me as a beginner. I just chose the Holga based on the price and looking at pictures online to see which results I liked better!
Seems like a really awesome store! I love the way they decorated it, and all the products are very cool looking.
Oh! PS, it’s the only one in the country! The LA store should be opening soon!
great read binks! i love the store, the people that work there, and the whole lomography community. it’s a nice place to pretty much shop(a bit pricey but it’s ok) and learn about lomography. but what i really love about the whole lomography is the community. everybody is helpful and there is no sense of competition at all. everybody is having fun, taking pictures, and trading techniques.
In a few days i’ll be getting my lomo pics. I’ll make my own lomohome and showcase my lomo pics there and i’ll put some on facebook 2. you should create your own lomohome 2 binks.
sue, try diana mini. it’s 35mm plus every single lomo friends that i have has it except me and binky. lol
I already have a lomo home! No one’s living in it yet! Haha
i think i may get the holga for my birthday (if glen remembers the email i sent him today, haha) — i always wanted one, but i got the fisheye #2 instead. btw i believe the lens is glass.
the mini diana looks cool! now i dont know which one i want. the holga is definitely affordable though!
I <3 Lomo!
Aw, I want to go to PTA night please :)
