This post seeks to inspire. A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I inherited 3 very cool cameras: 2 from his dad, and 1 which was given to Anthony as a young boy. It all began when I was having fun with my Holga, and Anthony remembered that he had an old SLR from his Uncle back at his parents’ house. So we went to their house, and Anthony unearthed a Mamiya with two lenses! Sweet! His dad saw our delight, and managed to dig through his old things and find his old Yashica and a really old Polaroid. We really lucked out finding these cameras. I can’t wait to try out the Yashica and the Mamiya. I’m pretty sure the old {olaroid is a lost cause, but we’ll see.
Anthony and I have a vast collection of vintage and repurposed items: an old leather makeup case we use for selling band merch, a reel to reel recorder for decoration, a Fisher Price record player, a Spectra Polaroid camera, and even our vinyl tufted jack-knifing sofa is from the 60s! Most of these things have dings & scratches, some require a lot of repair, and some serve no function other than interesting pieces in our decor.
Either way, the charm of someone else’s trash becoming my treasure is infinitely rewarding. So awaken your old soul and go sift through your parents old trunks and rummage. Go to your local thrift, or vintage shop and buy something that really catches your eye, something you can love and appreciate, or am object that will motivate you to expand doing what you love. For instance, buy some old Blues records if you’re really into the Blues. Find an old suitcase or trunk you can use as storage. The possibilities are endless! Here’s one of my favorite local shops: Another Man’s Treasure (aptly named, no?)

It’s always amazing to find some things that are older than you. i always get a kick out of experiencing(using, touching, or owning) them. good things will always be good things.
