Finally! Look what came in the mail! Vasgail’sミューズ ガイドブック Guidebook. (I’m not sure what the Japanese characters mean, in case anyonewants to translate.)
As you can see, I am obsessed with unwrapping and unboxing things; especially when they are wrapped with such care! I try very hard not to rip the paper, but it always happens in the end due to my impatience.
I am a big fan of Foo Swee Chin, or FSc for short. I fell in love with her art when I picked up her illustrated short stories collection called H’eofigendlic Lodrung a couple of years ago. The art was dark, and the stories were so bleak, that I became obsessed. FSc is an artist based in Singapore, and has created a comic book called MuZz, which, I can only describe as an Alice in Wonderland-type tale set in a much darker and hellish place called MuZz.
The characters, both good and evil, are lovable, because they seem so lost all of the time. You can’t help but want to reach out. FSc has an impeccable talent for creating characters and illustrating such emotion in their faces. She also has a completely unique way of using language. Even in her pen name, FSc, she has said, she uses a lowercase “c” to represent humility. The story of MuZz is so rich with words and illustrative details that mustn’t be missed. This is why I needed a guide book to help wrap my mind around the story. I have a hard copy of MuZz vol. 1, but the rest of the saga (still in progress), along with her inspiring sketches, can be found online at her site : fscwasteland.net.
